Gavin Wolch is a highly regarded and experienced litigator. For over a decade he has represented clients who need creative and personalized solutions to serious challenges. He practices criminal and regulatory defence at the trial, tribunal, and appellate level. He practices constitutional law and all areas of civil litigation. He takes on cases at every level of court, anywhere in Canada. His clientele includes businesses, executives, politicians, lawyers, professional athletes, and people who just need help.

Gavin’s background is a mix of scholarship, dedication, and high technology. As a teenager, he worked with cutting edge information technology with a successful firm in Winnipeg. While completing his Bachelor of Arts in Calgary he worked for a chain of liquor stores, as a security officer, and as a goalie for hire. After receiving his undergraduate degree in History and English, he completed a Masters degree in English Literature and Language with focuses in creative writing and post-colonial literature. He chose law over a PhD.

When Gavin graduated from Windsor Law he was awarded the Wilson Memorial Scholarship for "highest standing in those subjects falling in the constitutional law area."  He was recognized on numerous occasions for exceptional performance in moot courts, including prizes as the "outstanding mooter" in a labour law competition and as a member of the “best team” in a civil litigation challenge.  In his final semester Gavin was a student law clerk for Judge Lloyd Dean of the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor, Ontario.

Gavin completed his articles of clerkship and began his career as a lawyer with Greenspan Partners LLP, based in Toronto. He had the privilege of being trained by and working closely with the late Edward L. Greenspan QC and Julianna A. Greenspan.  Gavin worked on a wide variety of cases at all levels of court including: large scale frauds, criminal organization offences, serious violent offences including sexual offences, driving related offences, extraditions, drug offences, computer/technology offences, and regulatory matters.

In 2013, Gavin returned to Calgary to practice law with his father, Hersh Wolch QC.  Mr. Wolch QC was internationally recognized as one of the pre-eminent lawyers to ever practice in Canada. They worked closely together on many high-profile cases including homicide, wrongful conviction, large scale guns and drugs, frauds, sexual offences, extraditions, and too many others to list.

In 2019, Gavin made headlines in Canada and the United States, including features on Global News and BNN Bloomberg, for challenging an NHL hockey player to a one-on-one shootout to settle the final price on the sale of his home. And winning.

Gavin’s professional affiliations include: the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of the Northwest Territories, the Criminal Lawyers' Association, the Canadian Bar Association, Criminal Defence Lawyers’ Association, the Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association, and Student Legal Assistance. He annually attends the Federation of Law Societies National Criminal Law Program. He is also an alumnus of the Windsor Lancers and Calgary Dinos baseball teams.
